(Los Angeles, CA) – Trial in a lawsuit filed by MALDEF alleging that Kern County, California has violated the federal Voting Rights Act concluded in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California this week. It was the first federal Voting Rights Act trial in California in over a decade and a half.

MALDEF STATEMENT ON SETTLEMENT IN CHALLENGE TO PASADENA, TX ELECTION SYSTEM
(Pasadena, TX) – Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner and MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) announced today that the City and plaintiffs have reached a settlement of the litigation in Patino v. City of Pasadena, which was a challenge to Pasadena’s election system that was adopted through a charter amendment approved in a 2013 election.

Yesterday, Latino Justice PRLDEF and MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) joined the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) in challenging the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. The amended complaint adds seven plaintiffs who seek to enjoin the Commission, which we contend was created to discriminate against voters of color.
