MALDEF, Quietflex Manufacturing Company, L.P., Announce Final Approval Of Settlement With Latino Employees On Discrimination Claims
Houston, TX – U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal granted final approval today to the settlement of discrimination claims asserted against Quietflex Manufacturing Company, L.P. (“the Company”). Under the terms of the settlement, the Company’s insurer will pay $2.8 million to 78 current and former Latino Company employees. In addition, the Company has agreed to implement policies and practices to advance equal employment opportunity.
Farmers Branch To Consider Repeal Of Anti-Immigrant Ordinance Challenged By MALDEF and ACLU
FARMERS BRANCH, TX – Today, the city of Farmers Branch filed a joint document in federal court with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) and American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Texas (ACLU) in which the city agreed to not enforce its current ordinance. The Farmers Branch City Council voted yesterday to direct their City Attorney to draft a new ordinance effectively repealing the City’s anti-immigrant ordinance adopted on November 13, 2006.

Civil Rights Organizations File Suit Against City Of Escondido Over Unconstitutional Ordinance
ESCONDIDO, CA – A coalition of civil rights organizations and law firms announced a lawsuit they filed today against the City of Escondido, CA, on the grounds that the City’s anti-immigration ordinance is unconstitutional and illegal under federal and state law. In a demand letter issued last week, the coalition urged the City Council to avoid spending taxpayer dollars on a lawsuit defending the unconstitutional ordinance, and pressed instead for the measure to be repealed before the November 18 implementation date. The City has not responded to the letter as of this date.
