PON, a joint project of MALDEF and APALC, Convenes Learning Series on Education and Civic Engagement to Address Ballot Initiatives in the Upcoming Election
LOS ANGELES, CA – On Saturday, September 29, 2012, the Parent Organization Network (PON) will host its first Bridging the Parent-School Gap 2012 – 2013, Learning Series event at East Los Angeles Community College.
The mission of PON, which is a joint project of MALDEF and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC), a member of the Asian American Center for Advancing Justice — is to connect, inform, and mobilize parents and parent organizations across the greater Los Angeles area to transform the public education system. The Learning Series event, Understanding Hot Educational Issues: Protecting our Children’s Future Through Civic Engagement, will increase participants’ understanding of California’s current education budget and upcoming ballot initiatives; recruit participants to civic engagement and advocacy efforts; and survey participants’ advocacy interests and priorities in education for the upcoming year.
The free Learning Series event attracts parents, youth, and leaders from grassroots organizations and engages the community to influence positive policy changes in public education.
