SPECIAL REPORT: Truth In Immigration Responds to CIS Backgrounder Targeting Foreign Students

Despite not being immigrants, foreign students are now the target of a recent “backgrounder” by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). The Center claims to be “animated by a pro-immigrant, low-immigration vision which seeks fewer immigrants but a warmer welcome for those admitted.” This mission statement portrays CIS as primarily concerned with immigration. In practice, however, CIS wants to not only lower immigration levels, but also lower American exposure to the rest of the world. Targeting foreign students, who are here legally, suggests that CIS is becoming opposed to all foreign presence in the United States. No longer satisfied with promoting immigration restrictions, CIS now targets foreign students who contribute to the U.S. economy, academic excellence, and America’s standing in the world.
