MALDEF and ACLU Win Permanent Injunction of Third Farmers Branch Anti-Immigrant Ordinance

MALDEF and the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Texas (ACLU) succeeded in invalidating Ordinance 2952, the latest in a series of anti-immigrant ordinances enacted by Farmers Branch, Texas. The ordinance was adopted by the Farmers Branch City Council in January of 2008. The federal court decision forbids the City from ever enforcing the ordinance.

MALDEF’s 35th Annual Awards Inspires Desperate Housewives Episode on the Importance of Latino Heritage

Marc Cherry, creator of Desperate Housewives, was inspired to write the episode highlighting lead character Gabrielle Solis’ childhood after attending MALDEF’s 35th Annual Awards Gala honoring Eva Longoria Parker in November 2009.
