It’s no secret that Latinos and other immigrants across the nation are facing escalating threats to strip them of their civil rights and personal security. Nowhere is this danger more apparent than in Arizona. Several months ago, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law SB 1070, a discriminatory, anti-immigrant law. SB 1070 requires police to demand ‘papers’ from anyone stopped who fits the profile of someone “unlawfully present” in the United States. SB 1070 will go into effect on July 29. MALDEF is among the leaders in the efforts to block this law in federal court. Please join us on August 4 to help:
